Graeme McDowell Is First British US Open Champ In 40 Years
Graeme McDowell surprisingly became Britain’s first US Open champion for 40 years. The new champ has told reporters he is planning a long and boozy celebration after winning the crown.
“The first order of business is to have a drink out of the trophy – and, boy, will that taste sweet,” The Sun quoted McDowell, as saying.
“When I get home, I am going take it to my local, the Harbour Bar in Portrush, to fill it with Guinness. I can see a lot of Guinness in my immediate future. But I promise to sober up sometime around the Ryder Cup,” he added.
He also claims that his one-shot win over rank outsider Gregory Havret of France would be a life-changing experience. With the win McDowell wins one million pounds but can potentially win a further 10 million through endorsements and sponsorship.
