Barry Hearn Lands World Snookers Top Job

Barry Hearn was yesterday handed control of World Snooker after claiming a narrow victory in a vote of the sport’s top 64 players. Hearn will take control of 51 percent of the commercial business which has now been separated from regulatory body, Snooker Association and the World Professional Billiards. Hearns has spoken of how he wants to return the game of Snooker to the popularity it enjoyed in the 80’s and has promise more television exposure and prize money.
Hearn said: “I’m delighted by the outcome. I do not underestimate the challenges that lie ahead, but for the moment snooker is united and the future looks rosy. I owe the game a lot and I will make sure that I will be giving 100 per cent every day to bring it to the level at which it should be operating.”
